Attendance

Mattishall Primary School (20)

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

Research shows that, unsurprisingly, there is a strong link between regular attendance and achievement. Therefore, we request that parents keep absences to a minimum. We are looking for all children to aim to have 96% + attendance. Please remember that each day counts as two sessions, as children are registered at the beginning of the school day and after lunch.

Please note that under current legislation only the school may authorise an absence. Please let us know in person, or by telephone call or note why your child is absent, so that we can authorise the absence. If a child does not arrive at school and we have not heard from you, we will contact you to ascertain your child’s whereabouts.

Reminder:

We expect your child to be in school every day, ready to start at 8:50am. It is extremely important they arrive in time and are ready to learn. If you think that your child is unwell and unable to attend, then please notify the school office as soon as possible as we have a legal obligation to account for any absence.

When thinking of planning a family holiday, we request that parents do this out of term time. Please note that expectations are that school will not be able to authorise any holidays in term time. If you do request to take your child out of school in term time this will be declined and recorded as unauthorised. No action will be taken for up to 9 sessions (4 ½ days). After this period of time further action may be taken.

If a pupil’s attendance is causing concern and has fallen below 92% or there has been a sudden decline or they are persistently late action will be taken.

The DfE and Local Authority have updated their attendance and holiday in term time guidance.

The LGB is also responsible for monitoring attendance. Serious issues will be passed on to the Local Authority and fines may be incurred by parents of children who are not attending school on a regular basis.
